The entire industrial annealing furnace body is enclosed within a steel structural framework. The quenching tank is situated beneath the furnace, constructed of waterproof concrete with a diameter of 4 metres and a depth of 20 metres, or deeper depending on the length of the quenched extruded products. The central heating section is offset 1.2 metres from the quenching tank to permit initial hoisting of material bundles into the tank via electric hoist. The bundles are then traversed beneath the furnace before being raised to a predetermined height within the furnace using chain hoists (driven by winches) until the winch automatically cuts power. The lifting speed is 0.4 metres per second. During quenching, the descent speed is 0.4 to 0.6 metres per second.
For large extruded products, quenching may be performed individually. Hydraulic cylinders for lifting and translating the furnace door are mounted on the furnace frame. The furnace door itself incorporates an asbestos sealing device. A 250-millimetre-wide annular duct separates the heating chamber from the insulation layer, housing the heating elements. The furnace's heating chamber is isolated from the heating elements by thin plates. The fan, mounted on the lower platform, has a motor power of 70 kilowatts. Incoming air enters the heating chamber through the passage between the heating chamber and the heating elements, forming a sealed system with forced hot-air circulation.
Upon completion of the heating process, the furnace door opens and the charge is directly transferred into the quenching tank. The quenching furnace is divided into five heating zones, each capable of switching between delta and star connections. Temperature is automatically regulated and recorded by five electronic potentiometers.
The primary drawback of this industrial annealing furnace lies in its substantial civil engineering requirements, necessitating a deep foundation pit and elevated roof structure. Concrete works for the foundation pit must be completed prior to constructing the main plant building.
